Property Rights Protection Act Certified for 2007 MSB Ballot

Please take notice that the Canvass Board finalized their task today of Canvassing the remaining signatures brought in by sponsor, Penny Nixon on Tuesday, September 12. I (Borough Clerk) am recertifying this petition at this time as meeting the necessary requirements of AS 29.26.140(c).

An additional 457 signatures were submitted. Of these, 351 were canvassed, resulting in 288 yes and 63 no. The Canvass Board only canvassed through enough of 457 signatures to obtain the necessary number of registered voters (2013). In total, the Canvass Board processed 2021 registered voters’ “counted as yes” signatures in an effort to obtain the 2013. The 8 additional signatures were obtained simply because the Canvass Board finished the petition book they were working on at the time.

At this time, the initiative question will go forward to the voters on the October 2007 regular election ballot.
