Republican Party Unanimously Endorses Linda Menard

Local Districts Back Menard

Palmer, AK – In their most recent meeting, Republicans in House Districts 13 and 14 (Senate G) voted unanimously to endorse Linda Menard in her campaign for state senate. Linda will be running for the seat currently held by Senator Lyda Green. Since Green announced that she would not be seeking reelection in the upcoming August 26th Primary, Menard is expected to win the Republican Primary unopposed.

Menard's decision to run for senate was made recently after the urging of numerous friends and colleagues. Owing to the late start of her campaign, Menard sought and received a waiver to the party registration requirement, which requires that candidates be registered Republican for a continuous period of six months prior to competing in the Republican Primary. Due to the special circumstances in this particular race, a supermajority of eligible Republican voters was required in each of the two house districts in order to waive the primary election requirement.

District Chairman Dick Stoffel of Palmer was especially encouraged by Thursday's vote and stated, "this decision fits very nicely with the district's goals of working in conjunction with party and state election requirements to promote our local Republican candidates; ensuring that Republican legislators consistently reflect the values and convictions within the Party Platform; and welcoming all residents of the Mat-Su to join us as members of the grassroots party, regardless of their prior political affiliation."

The upcoming Republican Primary is open to all Alaska voters who are registered either Republican, Non-Partisan, or Undeclared. Rules governing the Republican Primary Election can be found on the Alaska Republican Party Website (www.alaskarepublicans.com).
